World Cancer Day is celebrated every February 4 worldwide, in order to raise public awareness of cancer, prevention of the disease, early diagnosis, treatment, and care for patients.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the world with approximately 19.3 million new cases and 10.0 million deaths from cancer in 2020.
In 2000, 355 people died of malignant diseases in Zadar County, while in 2020, 538 people died, which is an increase of 51.5%. In 2020, cancer, or malignant neoplasms, accounted for 25.0%, the second leading cause of death in the population, after diseases of the circulatory system (37.2%). The death rate from cancer was higher in men than in women.
The leading individual causes of death among malignant neoplasms in Zadar County in 2020 in men were lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer and bladder cancer, and in women lung cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer , and ovarian cancer.
In the fight against cancer, students of the 5th grade, majoring in nurse/general care technician, joined in the fight against cancer by creating educational posters with the aim of raising awareness among their peers about how to prevent cancer and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
