A three-day educational seminar on working with students with disabilities was held

The afternoon hours of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Ante Kuzmanić Medical School - Zadar, this week were reserved for a three-day educational seminar on working with students with disabilities. Full attention and active participation of teachers, professional associates and mentors, participants of the workshop, was skillfully maintained by an associate professor from the University of Zadar from the Department of Pedagogy, Doctor of Science Matilda Karamatić Brčić, seminar leader.
The aim of the seminar was to introduce teachers, professional associates and mentors with modern scientific knowledge in working with students with disabilities, with special emphasis on communication skills, and through practical examples to present pedagogical strategies, methods and tools for working with students with disabilities.
The topic of the first day of the seminar, Tuesday, March 29, 2022, was "Inclusive education today - state and perspectives". The role and importance of key participants in working with students with disabilities - teachers, professional associates, principals, parents, but also peers and special programs in working with children with disabilities (types, application and implementation of the same) were discussed. The most common difficulties encountered by students in the regular school system at the local and national level were pointed out.
On the second day, March 30, 2022, the topics "Students with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia)", "Students with behavioral disorders (ADHD and ADD)" and "Other difficulties in the regular school system" and pointed out the adequate way of choosing appropriate methods and forms of work in the process of learning and teaching.
The third day of education, March 31, 2022, also the final one, was marked by the topic "Communication skills in working with students with disabilities." There was talk of various learning and teaching techniques for students with disabilities in order to respect the abilities of each student. Working in small groups, experiences were exchanged, key preconditions for creating a program for working with students with disabilities were identified, and an appropriate form and method of work was selected.
The three-day educational seminar was held as part of the project "MEDICAL + - Improving the work of the Medical School Ante Kuzmanić Zadar - regional center of competence in the health sector", with a total value of 43,232,316.51 kn. The project is funded in 100% by the European Social Fund through the Operational Program "Effective Human Resources" 2014-2020, and aims to contribute to the modernization of vocational education and training tailored to the needs of the economy while encouraging inclusion.
