On November 9 and 10, 2020, the National Competition and Review "Describing Systems" was held, which was planned in April. The organizers of the National Competition and Review are the Ministry of Science and Education, the Agency for Education and the Croatian Interdisciplinary Society. Due to the pandemic and epidemiological measures, this year's competition was held in a digital environment through the Microsoft teams platform. Student Lucija Magaš, under the guidance of mentor prof. Gabriele Marin, already in the first stage of the competition, achieved the highest number of points with the research work "Wonderful World of Bacteria", in the written part she achieved second place, but after an oral presentation she confirmed the first place. Although first in its category (1st and 2nd grade students) it is not negligible that Lucija had the highest number of points among all participants, regardless of the age of the students.

The topic "Wonderful World of Bacteria" explores the interaction between bacteria found in school premises and students who live there. During the practical work, the student took swabs from different school areas and determined the number and variability of colonies. It also tested the effectiveness of various disinfectants and proved that some "natural disinfectants" can work better than those that contain a high percentage of ethanol.

We would like to thank our professor Josip Škara, who with his advice, while working in the laboratory, facilitated the process of growing and microscopying bacteria. We also thank our maids.

Lucija, thank you and good luck!
