An educational-humanitarian workshop and stand "Donate clothes and accumulate happiness" led by professor Linda Bakotić, pedagogue Petra Dominis Žura and psychologist Yvette Kalaba was held in the 1 b class within the Youth Counseling Center from April 5 to 7, 2022.
In recent years, the negative impact of fast fashion on the environment has been growing. Research shows that a huge amount of valuable energy sources (water, electricity) is used during the production of textiles. When it comes to artificial materials, the impact on the environment and human health is even more negative. We tend to obsessively buy large quantities of cheap and easily available pieces of clothing. Once clothes go out of trend, large amounts of textile waste pile up. The aim of this workshop is to raise awareness of the harmful effects of fast fashion on the environment and addiction to shopping. It is also called "Modern addiction of the 21st century".
Students made two posters for this purpose, the first contains information about the harmful effects of fast fashion on the environment while the second contains tips for smart and sustainable shopping (with an emphasis on overcoming shopping addiction). They also became aware of the risk group for developing such addiction, what causes it, how to recognize a milder and more severe disorder, what types of people with pathological symptoms of addiction, what are the signs of recognizing addiction in themselves and others and recommendations for getting out vicious circle. On the Open Day, April 7, 2022, a stand was set up with clothes donated by school staff and students. The pieces had a symbolic price, so everyone could take what they needed and leave a symbolic contribution in the donation box. Donations and the rest of the clothes were handed over at the end of the day to the Associations Jakov Zadranin and Bila Hrvatska, which will forward the donations and clothes to Ukrainian families in need.
